In the time of Kim Kardashian, John Moffitt is a nice change

Sometimes, it seems our current younger generations are focused on reality stars and the like.  People like Snookie and Kim Kardashian and even Honey Boo Boo have become household names.  Now, I admit I don’t understand holding these folks as any kind of example.  Heck, I don’t even find them interesting.  I do find the recent story of NFL lineman John Moffitt a lot more compelling.  Moffitt recently left the Denver Broncos mid-season, leaving more than a million dollars on the table.

Moffitt said that he was tired of risking life and limb after losing his love for football.  In an AP interview he said “I think it’s really madness to risk your body, risk your well-being and risk your happiness for money.”

“Everybody, they just don’t get it and they think it’s crazy. But I think what I was doing is crazy.”

In this day and age, I think it is refreshing for someone to throw away fame, fortune and possible health concerns for happiness.  After all, my momma always told me, money don’t buy happiness.  I hope this life lesson is not lost on the reality TV folks.  Sometimes it is not about the fame but about the having a good life.  Sometimes, it is not about life in the fast lane but a nice rocking chair on a quiet front porch.
